Frequently Asked Questions

A sudden pressure/crushing type pain in the left shoulder can be indicative of a heart attack, and you should seek emergency medical attention. Especially if the shoulder pain is accompanied with chest pain, left jaw, arm or neck pain along with a shortness of breath, sweating or dizziness.

If the pain is not as described above, but has not eased any over a couple of weeks or is getting worse it would be advisable to get an assessment to identify what is causing the pain, and how to improve the symptoms.

The shoulder region consists of 4 different joints, so there are a number of structures that can be causing your pain.

As well as the 4 joints there are a lot of muscles that go into moving our arms/shoulders and the biomechanics around the shoulder region is very complex.

This is why it is advisable to get a full assessment.

This can depend on what is causing the pain.

Generally, if the pain has not settled within a few weeks of reducing the aggravating activities it is best to get an assessment.
